Terry retired in 2017 but will return to the firm as a consultant in 2018.
Terry was admitted to the bar in 1982. Over the years he has gained a great wealth of experience in the law. Early on in his career he spent a total of 4 years with the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s office (now the Commonwealth DPP) primarily as a federal prosecutor handling complicated prosecutions including drug importation, tax fraud and social security fraud. He also acted in matters on behalf of the Trade Practices Commission (now the ACCC) and gained a great insight into Trade Practices, an area in which he has continued to practice. It is through this background that he also gained expertise in franchising and administrative law. Upon a return to private practice Terry acted as a defence lawyer and was still briefed by the Trade Practices Commission on some matters.
Terry has appeared as counsel in most jurisdictions and conducted a countless number of both criminal and civil trials including many jury trials.
In later years Terry broadened his skill area and developed a commercial practice to assist clients in most business matters including buying and selling businesses, advising on and drafting of complicated commercial agreements (including trust deeds and property leases) and dealing with business disputes. He now has an extensive client base including small businesses from all over South Australia. He is one of a handful of lawyers in South Australia able to provide a legal certificate as part of a guarantee or reverse mortgage.
Terry has also developed extensive experience in estate planning and is able to provide advice on complicated wills, preparation of enduring powers of attorney and Advanced Care Directives and assisting with grants of Probate and generally with the administration of deceased estates.
Terry has a high professional approach to the practice of the law and is well respected by his peers.
